The UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the main funder of the NZEC project. Defra have put forward the NZEC programme of work as part of their drive to encourage a low-carbon economy and to follow up on the EU-China Memorandum of Understanding regarding Carbon Capture and Sequestration.
